Is there a difference between temptation and sin?

Yes. The mere thought of doing something sinful, selfish, or unholy is temptation – it’s not sin. When you act on that temptation, however, it becomes sin. We know this from Scripture and by the example of Jesus, who was tempted by Satan and yet remained sinless.
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet He did not sin.
Hebrews 4:15
The goal is to resist temptation and reject it before you act. No one is perfect, but you can strive to be holy in all you do. And when you do sin, repent quickly and resolve again to resist temptation.
